The A-League is back for a frantic month of football action to crown a champion for the 2019-20 season. It’s crunch time for Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday.
A-League Tips – Western Sydney Wanderers V Perth Glory
History: Played 24: Perth 9 V Western Sydney 8 (7 Draws)
Last meeting: January 19, 2020: Perth 1 d Western Sydney 0 at BankWest Stadium
Final Thoughts: Perth Glory are desperately seeking a form reversal to confirm their place in the A-League playoffs, while Western Sydney Wanderers are aiming to keep their slim chances alive. Both teams have three matches to play.
The Glory have slipped to fifth with a 9-7-7 record thanks to some underwhelming post-restart results.
After a 1-0 win over lowly Central Coast, Perth have crashed to losses to Wellington (2-1) and Adelaide (5-3). The Glory trailed the Reds 5-1 midway through the second half before grabbing a couple of late consolation goals.
They can still be bounced out of the playoffs by Wanderers or Western United, who are both four points in arrears.
Wanderers are unbeaten since the A-League’s resumption. They needed an 88th-minute Simon Cox goal to snatch a point from a 1-all draw against the Mariners first up but defeated the in-form Phoenix 1-0 four days later. Kawme Yeboah slotted the winner in the 73rd minute.
WSW have lost just one of nine games since Jean-Paul de Marigny took over as manager in mid-January.
Perth are unbeaten in their last seven against Western Sydney, winning four. Gregory Wuthrich and Alex Grant scored in the Glory’s mid-December home win, while an early Bruno Fornaroli strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory at Parramatta a month later.
The Glory are narrow favourites but their threadbare defence against Adelaide is a major worry for coach Tony Popovic.
